orange. also, tell me what you think about links.

all about orange lately

The first and second are days 3 & 2 of Project 365, respectively. The mohair scarf is a couple years old (both the picture and the scarf) that I recently added to my Flickr archives for Ravelry. Oh, Ravelry!

I don’t know what it is about orange lately. I want to wear it, eat it, taste it, smell it, surround myself with it. Does orange even have a smell? I know green does.

Day 3 and the project is going well. Thank you all so much for the encouragement! As I mentioned to a few of you over email, when I told the mister about my plans to participate, I was met with a chuckle and a few guffaws. Followed by a, “sorry sweetie, sounds like a neat idea!”, with a barely-disguised smile in his voice. I wonder how those words will taste a few hundred days from now? Heh.

Once upon a time, on this here blog, I used to maintain a page of links to my favourite crafty blog reads. I took down that list recently because my new aggregator (Google Reader) can’t generate a handy list of blogs I subscribe to like Bloglines used to (which I haven’t used in ages). I didn’t feel a whole lot of remorse for getting rid of the links page at the time because I sort of assumed that no one looked at it. But, here’s the thing: every once in a while, I go on a discovery tour of craftblogland by clicking on link lists on blogs I visit. I find it’s a great way to discover new blog treasures, and without those lists of favourite reads, I most certainly wouldn’t find those treasures! And then it’s just me and the usual suspects dancing around in an echo chamber!

I’ve added a whole slew of fantastic blogs to my aggregator recently, as a result of just such a discovery tour (next post: what’s new in my aggregator!). But, I’m curious about what others do. Do you plumb your favourite bloggers’ lists of favourite blogs? Do you ignore the links and walk on by? Do you see those links at all? I’d love to know!

Good luck with the 365. I had contemplated making that commitment, however school must take precedence this year.

I too have been google reader of late. Although I hand coded my links page about this time last year (dire need of updating), if I was to update it today I would export the OPML file from Google reader and cleverly cut and paste that info into my html file. But I like those types of challenges. Who knows maybe there’s a fancy way you can export the list – or make it public to others.

I totally pillage other people’s sidebar blog connections. But I have to say, I am beginning to favor the idea of just putting a handful of current interests for the month. Funny you are thinking about this, because I have been having the exact same conversation with myself.

I switched to Google Reader about a year ago and also miss the Bloglines-like link list… but I also have an almost-two-year-old and the 140 or so subscriptions are sometimes more than I can keep up with. Having said that though, I always want more inspiration! When I have time I also follow craft links from other sites, and when in Flickr looking around in craft pools I like to look at people’s profiles to see if they have blogs too.

I’m always looking at other bloggers favorite links, looking for new inspiration. I’ve met a lot of sweet people who I kind of stumbled upon, going from link to link :-)

I have slowly come around to Google Reader and am now SOLD! I’m enjoying your 365 and orange has always been a favorite of mine! I do like to go through others’ links but did just go through mine too and reduced them and moved some to separate pages (might end up junking them though).

Nice orange photos. I like orange too.

I like to check out links on people’s sites when time permits. They are handy. Thanks for asking.

I’m so excited that you are also participating in project 365! I’m looking forward to seeing your stream in the upcoming year.

I’ve been really attracted to orange lately, too. Even oranges. I attributed it to the lack of sunny days here in Spokane. I need color AND vitamin C. :)

Oh, I forgot to answer you question about links! Yes, do, from time to time, like to surf other bloggers links. I find it a great way to discover new blogs. I haven’t done that in awhile, though.

As soon as I read “Does orange have a smell?” a bit of synesthesia set in–the smell of orange peel as it’s peeled away from an orange. That made my day. Thanks.

I don’t know where I’ve been, but I just “discovered” blogs a little over a year ago when I first found yours when looking for info on a topic you had written about. And at that time, your links took me a number of sites that I now visit regularly. Thank you for such a gift!

I love your orange photos and think that you’re pretty brave doing the 365 Project! I would love to but know that massive cracks would start to appear in my posting within a few weeks!

As for links – I like blogs that have links (I guess it makes me feel it’s about the blogging world and not just the person blogging) and frequently use them as portals to new blogs! As you say, it is fun to find new places to visit – I often do it through the lists of commentors on more popular blogs too! I have found some great places doing this!

Sorting through another person’s list is how I found you! I think it was Lolly’s but I can’t be 100% certain. I think adding lists is a great idea. This was how I began my list of reads when I first found blogs over a year ago and I’ve started doing it again recently to “freshen” up my acquaintance list.
