You already know all about this film. Female serial killer played convincingly by Charlize Theron who gets ugly and wins all sorts of awards for it. Well I’m here to tell you that she deserved those awards, every single one of them (there was more than one, wasn’t there? There should have been). This film had a huge impact on me, I can’t stop thinking about it and I’ve had Journey floating through my brain for three days. Not only does Theron do a wonderful job (as does Christina Ricci), but Patty Jenkins, the writer, writes the story as so much more than a grissly serial-killer piece. She really fleshes out the emotional trauma that Aileen Wuornos suffered for so many years, making her not just a sympathetic character, but someone who I wept for for being abandoned, and abused, and raped, and marginalized, and someone who never learned to make good choices because nobody ever bothered to show her how.
