reading, knitting, & claiming favourites

It seems that not many people have mastered the reading-while-knitting thing I asked about. I was sort of getting ahead of myself as well because I certainly haven’t reached the stage where I can take my eyes of my knitting, but I hope to get there soon. A post to knitomatic (excellent Yahoo! group for Toronto-area knitters) did net some suggestions that I plan to put into action (in no particular order):
- sit at a desk/table; prop book up; force open with heavy object; turn page when necessary & reposition heavy object.
- get roommate to read to you
- use cookbook/music stand to prop book open
- bookweights (approx. half way down the page, second column).
It all sounds very do-able and not all that acrobatic either, stay tuned for progress-reports.
In other needle-news, I started another ribbed-for-her-pleasure yesterday, this time using Rowan’s All Season Cotton in Jersey (a lovely stone/natural colour). Given my limited knitting experience, I’m hesitant to claim favourite yarns but, I think this might be my favourite yarn! It knits up all soft & velvety, perfect for the wool-allergic like me. This new project also ushers new needles into my life and and, given my limited knitting experience, I’m hesitant to claim favourite needles, but I think bamboo needles are my favourite! No more slipped stitches at the beginnings/ends of rows, and the needles get warm from use! Mmmmm, cotton & bamboo. So tactile.
