listy list

I do this thing where I go for days without posting here and then when I do get around to writing something up, it ends up being a bulletin board of all sorts of disparate news items with nary a sign of cohesiveness. Not entirely sure why I do this, other than it having something to do with not being a natural multiple-posts-per-day blogger. But then this is how I do email too, that other mode of electronic communication. I’d rather put some thought into a few long messages than prattle out a bunch of little ones, for whatever that’s worth.
It’s a formula I am rethinking, but in the interim, here is the list of disparate news items:
- I set up Gmail. Send mail to etchesjohnson@gmail.com. I’m curious to see their scan-for-advertising in action. It has rightly been getting heat for breach of privacy concerns. I don’t plan to use the account for anything of importance (i.e.: please continue to use the contact form for real stuff, send me spam and jokes to gmail) so it’s all a big experiment for me right now, but the cause for concern is real.
- Is it a coincidence that TV Turnoff Week sort of coincides with National Library Week? I’d like to think it isn’t but you know it probably is. I’ve borrowed 6 books from my local library this week so far (by the way, National Library Week is meaningless in Canada but I’m trying to pretend it isn’t) but I haven’t read a single one yet. Why? Because I’ve been watching TV. Unfortunately this week also coincides with the end of round 1 and beginning of round 2 of the NHL playoffs. It’s the best time of year if you’re a hockey fan — multiple games every night (go Leafs!). Not a good time of year if you’re a hockey fan and a reader, librarian, and general non-believer in television.
- Three friends unveiled new blogs over the past couple of weeks. Whoop!
- If I was in a rut over reading before, I’m buried now. See bulletin item 2, above.
