Mortification: Writers’ Stories of their Public Shame, edited by Robin Robertson

As you may or may not know, I had a lot invested in this being a good book. It was supposed to raise my book-reading spirit from the doldrums of repeated expectation and disappointment, and while I am happy to report that it did (two books in four days must be some measure of success), I do have to say that this collection isn’t anything of literary importance. Not only that, while some anecdotes were a good read, the collection as a whole left me feeling like this might have been a great idea for a series of articles in a lightweight literary magazine, but as a book it comes of as entirely weightless.
