Braveheart (1995)
I like Medieval things. I used to study Medieval things fairly intensely before I became a librarian, so I’m pretty sure that when I first saw this movie (in 1995, when I was embroilled in the study of Medieval things), I liked it somewhat. And while seeing it again, 9 years later, was a good thing because it sort of reminded me why I liked studying Medieval things, it also just sealed my disdain for big hollywood pictures. This disdain is the direct result of me being sick to death of the christ-the-saviour paradigm, it seems to me that movie-goers should have had enough of the underdog-saves-selflessly-then-perishes-at-hands-of-ruthless-leader formula. I know I am.
