priority #1: personal, professional, financial organisation

It doesn’t really qualify as a new year’s resolution because everyday I wake up and tell myself “I will be more organised today”, right after I tell myself “I will be a good Reference Librarian today” (this really works, give it a go to-morrow morning, only remember to fill in your own profession or it won’t be nearly as effective). There are certain things, certain activities, that fall aside under the weight of daily priorities and for me any and all manner of organisation seems to suffer the most.
If you’re looking to add some financial organisation to your life, here’s a little something I did yesterday that you might also benefit from. I created a new user in my Palm desktop environment, called it “banking”, filled in all recurring payments (there were 18 in total, before I listed them all out I had no idea so many parties laid claim to my modest paycheck), and printed off the whole year, one month to a page. It’s our financial year at a glance, convenient bill recording device, and reality check all in one.
Getting that done has me feeling all accomplished. And beholden.
