I’m doing a lot of background reading for the article I’m working on, which means a whole lot of technical manuals, stuff about web culture, and lots about blogs and blogging. I sort of unconsciously, unofficially decided not to review most of it because what can you say about a book on XML? “It was good”? When I read this one though, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about it. I have been reading the author’s blog, Rebecca’s Pocket, for almost as long as she has been publishing it. She has a way of commenting critically and lucidly on all of her subjects, from politics to civic literacy, and she employs this same compos mentis style in her book as well. For the experienced blogger, there isn’t a whole lot that is revelatory about this book, but if anyone was to write a how-to/how-not-to book on blogging, Rebecca’s the right person to have done it. And all the personal details about her own blogging experiences make this book completely readable.
