Dear America: Letters home from Vietnam (1987)

This film is a well-edited, thoughtfully juxtaposed series of news clips (some never before broadcast) narrated by a selection of letters written by American GIs in Vietnam. The letters are read by a bunch of famous actors who are, thankfully, secondary to the stories being told in the epistles. As far as documentary film goes, there’s nothing revelatory about this one, but it will give you pause to consider how it is that governments still go off to war given the devastation and human suffering military conflicts cause.
