civic holiday

I don’t know what kind of perverse psychology has me sitting here on the morning of the second day of a three day weekend, bemoaning the fact that one of the long weekend days has already passed and there are only two left. Seems to me that I should be celebrating having most of it still afoot.
Yesterday we went over to Pete (Mike’s brother) and Karen’s house for supper where I ate veal for the very first time after Pete assured me that veal farming practices have changed in response to public pressure. It was good. Have all those non-veal-eating years of protest paid off? I also got a handful of pictures of our nephew Matthew. He’s 18 months old now and fully aware that his picture is being taken, which means the sweet, slightly startled smile shows up right after the flash has gone. Still, I managed to capture a couple of moments of lingering interest, hurrah for 18 months.
