commonplace, since 2002
Surely you will already have noticed sidebar, appearing in the left-hand column of this page. Here you will find a veritable buffet of interesting links and commentary, perfect for those of you who wish you had more time to surf for interesting links and someone to comment on them for you. Sidebar will be updated often and I’m working on an archive for the stuff that drops off this page. This was not my idea.
And surely you’ve already delighted in current preoccupations, appearing at the top of the right-hand column of this page. Even though my preoccupations change daily, this feature will be updated monthly(ish). Plans are in the offing to establish an archive of these too.
And the hits just keep on coming.

I love that a day of civil disobedience and grassroots anarchy is celebrated as a national holiday.
I’ve done a wee bit more work on the site. CSS is now linked not embedded and I’ve tweaked some details to make things look better with IE6 (having learned from my site stats that 63% of you are using IE6, I thought I’d better get my butt in gear). I’d appreciate a comment if anything looks funny. And I’m still working on the temperamental think/link so don’t bother telling me that it’s still disappearing because I know.
We had a somewhat sedentary weekend. Saturday it poured all day so I took the opportunity to work on unpacking the study. You see, the study is on the third floor so very little air conditioning actually gets up there, a warm situation that is further exacerbated by the 4′ x 4′ skylight in the room. It’s a lovely but very warm room. I’ve been putting off working on it until we had a gloomy day and Saturday was it. I managed to get all the furniture in place, most of the books unpacked, the wiring in order for all the various widgets and the floors mopped. And I wasn’t nearly as much of a sticky mess at the end of it as I was when I painted the room two weeks ago, on a sunny 30°C day.
